During a home-building job, Ed Jaeger noticed that construction workers, masons, and electricians were not wearing protective gloves. When he asked them why they weren’t wearing any, their answer was that most gloves in the market only got in the way of doing their job. It was in this setting that Ironclad was born. Jaeger founded Ironclad Performance Wear Corporation in Santa Monica, California to fill a void in protective hand gear for workers. He noticed that there was a huge disconnection between the workers and the most important tool they have: their hands. Ironclad designs, manufactures, and distributes protective gloves for the automotive and construction industries.

Some of the company’s popular products are:

The KONG gloves – designed for those who work in the oil, gas drilling, rigging, demolition, and heavy construction industry. Included in this product line is the patented KONG® Dexterity Super Grip, which is designed to protect the metacarpal and knuckles from heavy impact, infused with silicon to offer maximum dexterity when working under wet or oily conditions. This is the hand protection perfect for those who work for the oil and gas industry.

The I-VIZ® Reflective Orange glove – made of synthetic leather, has a Velcro wrist closure for a secure fit, and features 5 reflectors located on the back of the hand. This is perfect for those who work under dark or low visibility conditions, where being easily seen is critical.

Ironclad Gloves – Easier and Nicer Looking

In the old days, the soldier’s GI issue glove for changing out the barrel of the M240 Machine Gun (and other MGs) was the standard ugly-looking asbestos glove. Also the asbestos gloves of old are often no longer included in the crew served kits because of medical concerns. Units are finding themselves having to buy something else as a commercial off the shelf purchase.
