Harrington and Richardson was formed because of the innovation that was offered by Gilbert H. Harrington, one that would greatly revolutionize the small arms industry. To create this invention, Harrington sought for assistance from William A. Richardson. Consequently, the two formed a company that will become a common name for all gun enthusiasts, especially because of Harrington’s daring invention: the shell ejecting revolver.

Harrington and Richardson was founded in 1871, and its popularity led its roots to be established in Massachusetts, although it will expand again soon after. The invention signified a wonderful improvement in firearm design. Afterwards, they would become responsible for the manufacturing and distribution of the England Anson and Deely shotgun.

Along with these innovations, Harrington and Richardson would be able to design and manufacture the USRA single shot target pistol, which was then adopted by the US Army Team. Another innovation by Harrington and Richardson is its production of shoulder-type flare guns. With all of these firearms, Harrington and Richardson also offer some common rifles, such as the M1 Garand rifle, the M14, and the M16. Presently, Harrington and Richardson is a substituent of the Freedom Group, and is now a world-renowned shotgun and rifle producer.
