AR15.com had its humble beginnings as a simple, straightforward mailing list for firearms enthusiasts. It is considered to be the largest, most comprehensive, and most active firearms community found on the Internet. Out of the growing interest and growing members of the mailing list, a website was created to present a way to collect and share information among its members. A bulletin board or forum was created as well for a more interactive, shared experience among its end users.

The focus of the site is to promote the protection of firearms freedom. Its mission is to teach firearm safety and promote the sport. As the maintenance costs of R15.com grew, it reached out to businesses within the firearm industry to ask for support in exchange for advertisement on the site, quickly turning it into a profitable business aside from being an information portal for the firearms enthusiast.

AR15.com has dedicated sections for the AR-15, AK-47, handguns, and armory. It also has an extensive database of information from articles to books. From a collection of firearm manuals straight from the manufacturer, to a collection of guides on how to properly install, assemble, and maintain rifles, you can download these from the site in PDF format.
