Anderson Cooper was born in 1967 in New York City to writer Wyatt Emory and heiress designer Gloria Vanderbilt. At the age of 10, his father died during an open-heart surgery, and later on, his brother Carter committed suicide by jumping out the window of their mother’s apartment in New York City. Both deaths influenced his decisions regarding his career path later on.

Cooper stated in one of his interviews, “I became interested in questions of survival: why some people survive and others don’t… covering wars just seemed logical.” Cooper is a graduate of Dalton School and a graduated with a Political Science degree from Yale University in 1989.

Cooper’s news career started off when he landed a job at Channel One as a fact checker; but fueled by his interest in wars, he later on chose to video-document armed conflicts in Southeast Asia, mainly in Myanmar and certain parts of Africa. This is what spearheaded his career as an acclaimed news anchor.

CNN eventually gave him his own news show, Anderson Cooper 360 on which he offers an in-depth discussion of the main headlines of the day. He is neither pro nor anti-gun but he repeatedly argues how “unready” or “unwilling” America is to act on the irresponsible retail and use of guns in the country. Cooper has received major journalism awards, including a National Headliners Award and many Emmy awards for his coverage and contributions to the news industry.

Jesse Ventura Chris Kyle Lawsuit Concluded – Jesse Wins

The Jesse Ventura Chris Kyle lawsuit has been the talk of the town these last couple of days ever since a jury awarded Jesse $1.8 Million in damages from the slain Navy SEAL sniper’s estate. The jury decided yesterday, July 29th in Minnesota.

The lawsuit started when Chris Kyle said in his book that he punched Jesse Ventura out in a bar in 2006 when Kyle claimed that Jesse said the SEALs “deserved to lose a few” as it relates to combat.

There is a lot of interest in this case for two main reasons. First, both men are celebrities in their own right. Chris Kyle, an author, a famous SEAL sniper, a 2 time Silver Star recipient for valor, a five time Bronze Star recipient for valor, and who is no longer with us. Chris was killed at a gun range by Eddie Ray Routh, a Marine who Kyle was helping to recover from PTSD. Jesse Ventura is a former Navy SEAL, professional wrestler, Minnesota governor, an author, and a TV show host. Both men have other accomplishments, but these are the main ones.

Celebrity infighting is the main reason for interest in this case. Yet another major reason is this is probably the first time the public has seen a case where a man’s widow has to pay for her late husband’s lawsuit for defamation. Sure there may be examples, but none so prominent as this one. And people are upset at Ventura for going through with it. Others are glad Jesse won because it clears his name, which is something that is priceless in the public eye. It is very apparent that the court of public opinion is with the Kyle’s widow.

Here are several prominent responses to the Jesse Ventura Chris Kyle Lawsuit:
