.357 SIG
The 357 SIG is a pistol cartridge introduced by SIG Sauer in 1994 when it came up with the P229 pistol, which was the first handgun to be chambered in 357 SIG. in the 1990s, the law enforcement was trying to distance itself from revolvers and opted to use semi-automatics instead.
Determined to come up with something similar to a .357 Magnum, Ted Rowe and SIG took on the task of developing a cartridge that performed like one but is fired from a semi-automatic. This gave birth to the 357 SIG. The recoil and performance of the 357 ISG has often been compared to that of the .40 S&W and .357 Magnum. It fires at relatively high pressures and as such, the muzzle flash and noise is somewhat significant, even with the use of standard loads and longer barrels.
Some of the most important law enforcement agencies use the 357 SIG, such as the Secret Service and the Federal Air Marshals. In fact, it is just second to the .40 S&W as the most widely issued caliber to law enforcement agencies. Many gun experts believe that the 357 SIG has the right combination of features to make it the perfect cartridge to use for self-defense.
